1a. Thermographic Surveys
This form of non-destructive electronic testing uses award-winning,
state-of-the-art infra red camera technology and can be
utilised on existing or new build projects. It can quickly
and precisely visually pinpoint areas of moisture damage
or inadequate insulation. This form of predictive maintenance
detection enables Under 1 to provide a cost-effective,
targeted repair solution rather than full replacement.
In the case of existing roofs, an Under 1 Thermographic
Survey can detect the deterioration and subsequent breaching
of exposed waterproof membranes due to UV damage. It accurately
highlights areas where water has penetrated, is trapped
and causing moisture damage.
For refurbishment and new build projects, an infra-red
Thermographic Survey can clearly expose where insulation
is missing, water is trapped or cold bridges exist.
We offer this as a separate chargeable service or it can
be included as part of a full roofing project.
1b. Moisture Gauge
The main use for our Moisture Gauge is to detect moisture in a roofing system without causing any physical damage to the system. The device measures moisture through the presence of a source called Americium Beryllium. The source is sealed into the device and omits gamma rays which thermalise hydrogen neutrons (present in the rainwater within the system) and a reading is returned to the device. The reading is not given in any particular unit, but is merely a figure. The figures often change due to the different waterproofing build-ups, however as experienced users we can determine which figures indicate dry areas and which figures indicate water ingress.
The results are recorded by marking a grid on the roof, typically with 1-2m spacing, depending on the overall area of the roof. Systematic readings are then taken at points such as A1, C10 etc and are put into a table. The roof and its results are then illustrated in a chart for ease of reading for the client. This grid system allows us to ascertain how widespread the leak is, and also the source of the ingress.
Overall the device allows Under1 to save the client unnecessary costs by isolating the affected areas. It is also a useful tool for us as it often highlights defective areas/detailing that would be very difficult to see just from our visual surveys.
2. Condition
Surveys
Under 1 are renowned within the industry for producing
some of the most highly comprehensive and honest reports
for all types of roofs. Each report clearly identifies
the problems concerning the roof and the correct waterproofing
solutions, if any.
We work quickly yet thoroughly to produce our surveys
in order to report any problems ASAP and to stop any problems
worsening.
Estimated budget costs for remedial or refurbishment works
can also be provided at this stage.
3. Specifications
Once we have ascertained
precisely what waterproofing solution is required, we can
provide detailed specifications for existing or new buildings.

for inclusion into tender documents. Our extensive knowledge
of the roofing market allows us to put forward the most
suitable system considering your budgets, etc.
We attend product launches, industry exhibitions, regularly
researching new products etc which puts us in a position
to recommend products that are not covered by your typical
local manufacturers’ salesman.

we have no tie-in with or obligation to use any particular
manufacturers.

5. Contractors
We have constructed a comprehensive and impressive
list of approved contractors that have to complete a detailed
questionnaire about their company.
Under 1 pre-vets them on your behalf, diligently looking
into their company history and membership to professional
bodies, etc. If they don’t check out, they don’t
make the Under 1 list.
Any number of contractors can be provided for your tender
purposes should you have a local contractor then they can
be included provided we are all happy with their credentials.
6.
Project Management
Under 1’s involvement in roofing
projects can extend far beyond that of many others
in the roofing industry.
As experienced project managers, we carry out pre-start
meetings and regular progress meetings with the contractor
and conduct on-going site inspections.
All meetings are carefully documented and reported direct
to you, the client. This means you are constantly kept
informed and updated.
We will monitor all aspects of the roofing works to ensure
a high quality of installation is maintained and all the
roofing works comply with the specification.
